Even though our vision of 2020 has been forever changed, Nike is still pushing forward. The days of women basketball players shopping in the mens section will be long gone with the introduction of the Swoosh Fly Collection. Just in time for the WNBA season, the women’s basketball collection with include both on-court performance pieces and off-court lifestyle staples. The future of women’s hoops is brighter than ever.
Taking insights from former WNBA players and todays starts including the likes of Sue Bird, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson and everyday hoopers the team heard the feedback and executed. One being that the mens shorts don’t fir their bodies and often were too narrow for the thighs and ill-fitting in the rear. So, the designers widened the leg, created a high rise and tightened the waist. Other pieces in the collection address the upper body such as the Swoosh Fly mesh jersey which features a narrower, less boxy shoulder with so the jersey straps don’t slide around during play. The collection was designed not only by experts but also a recipient of Women In Nike, a program that provides former WNBA players with full-time positions at Nike WHQ.
