As long as I can remember I've been wearing gold jewelry. For some reason, it's a thing in the black community when a girl gets her first gold nameplate or gold hoops. Till this day, I continue to wear the gold nameplate my grandmother got made for me when I was in the sixth grade. It's even more special to me now since she's no longer with us.
